Fireweed Ferments was started by Renee, aka "CRASH," Newton and her partner Scott McKenrick in 2016. They came together in a stunning Colorado mountain town they call home. The company came to life after many years of eager experimentation with different types of ferments. It started as just a few jars on one shelf later growing to consume entire rooms in the house...

It all began after a life-changing reading session when Crash consumed in one night, front to back, Wild Fermentation written by Sandor Katz. A fire lit in her heart and she began fermenting everything and anything she could dream of. A short time later their home was full of the most vibrant colors, textures and aromas brought on by her new craft.

Through word-of-mouth and some small social media moves, they developed a passionate local following. With their client list ever expanding, it wasn't until local restaurants began calling that they realized they needed to up their game and get more serious.

The word was out. People wanted Crash's goods. The time was right and Fireweed Ferments was born. And speaking of words! Fireweed Ferments is named after Crash's favorite Colorado wildflower, fireweed. Not only is it edible, it is also labeled as a pioneer species. That is a species that colonizes ecosystems after ecologically destructive events including but not limited to: fires, floods, and mudslides...now that's highly amazing!

Fireweed Ferments was started by Renee, aka "CRASH," Newton and her partner Scott McKenrrick in 2016 in a stunning Colorado mountain town where they like to call, home. This calling of bringing FF to life began  after many years of eager experimentation with different types of ferments (which at that time, consisted mostly of testing alcohols, and made for a pickling of a time)...

After a life-changing reading sesh when they read, (in one night, front to back), Wild Fermentation, written by Sandor Katz’s, the two immedieatly started fermenting cabbage.  A fire was lit in Crash's subconscious and she began fermenting everything and anything she could dream of.  A few weeks later and their home was full of the most vibrant colors, textures and aromas brought on by their new craft.

They had offerings of various and unique kombuchas; sauerkraut too good to eat with anything but ITSELF; kimchi that awoke anyone's pallet who even got to taste it; milk kefir to soothe the guts of hungover friends, and water kefir to soothe...well... more of the same!

The word was out.  Locals wanted Crash's  goods. The time was right and FF was born. And speaking of words! Fireweed Ferments was named after Renee's favorite Colorado wildflower, the Fireweed, which happens to not only be edible but it's also labeled as a pioneer species that habitats ecosystems after major ecologically destructive impacts including but not limited to: fires, floods, and mudslides...now that's highly amazing!
